Terms, privacy and refunds

What Duam is

Duam introduces you to artisans and holds the money until the job is done. The artisan does the work, not us. We check who they are, we hold your payment, and we step in when something goes wrong, but the work itself is between you and them.

What you pay

Fixed-price services show the artisan’s own price before you book. Quote services take a callout deposit, which is credited against the final bill if you go ahead with the work. If you decide not to proceed after the artisan has come, they keep the callout for making the trip.

No artisan may ask you for money outside the app for work booked through it. If one does, tell us and do not pay.

Refunds

• Nobody came. Full refund, callout included, automatically.
• You cancelled before the artisan set off. Full refund.
• You cancelled after they set off. The callout is kept, everything else refunded.
• The work was not done, or not done properly. Tell us within 48 hours. We hold the money while we look into it, and we will send somebody else or refund you.
• Materials money held for a purchase that is not made before the deadline returns to you automatically.

Refunds go back the way you paid, usually within five working days.

What we collect, and why

• Your phone number, to sign you in and to reach you about a job.
• Your address and a map pin, to work out which artisan is nearest and to get them to your door. Your street and house number are released to the artisan only once they are on the way.
• Your bookings and payments, to run the service and because we are required to keep financial records.
• A photo, if you add one. Optional, and you can remove it.

For artisans we also hold identity details, a guarantor, and where they work, because that is what the verification badge stands for.

What we do not do

We do not sell your data. We do not share your number with anyone outside a job you booked. We do not use your address for anything except getting an artisan to it.

Your rights

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act you can ask for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account. Email privacy@duam.ng and we will act within 30 days. Some records must be kept for tax and anti-fraud reasons even after an account closes.

Safety

Every artisan is met in person before they appear here. If somebody behaves badly, tell us and we will remove them. If you are in immediate danger call the police first, then tell us.
